Russ M. Miller, LLIF
Founder and Chairman
Russ M. Miller has more than 38 years of business experience in international and leadership development, including 18 years living and working in Asia. Russ serves as a senior advisor to senior management and boards of directors of companies and organizations in both the USA and Asia.
After leaving the U.S. Army Security Agency, Russ joined the Principal Financial Group, a major, US based multinational company. From 1972 until 1988 he served in various sales and management positions. He was appointed an officer of the company in 1988. In 1993, Russ was appointed a managing director with Principal International, Inc. where he served as the country-head in Indonesia from 1993-1998, holding the positions of managing director and member of the board of commissioners for Principal’s Indonesia insurance and pension companies. In 1998, Russ became the country-head in the P. R. China. Until his retirement from Principal Financial Group in 2001, Russ held the positions of managing director (China), Principal International, Inc. vice president, Principal International (Asia) and chief representative (China) Principal Life Insurance Company.
Russ has remained active in Asia as an independent leadership and business development advisor-consultant. He serves as chief executive advisor to the chairman of Jpigroup Inc. and a Jpigroup business partner, Beijing, China; chief advisor to the chairman of Jiangsu Transportation Research Institute, Ltd. and is a member of its board of directors, Nanjing, China; chief advisor to 3M Business Development Consultants, Jakarta, Indonesia, and a member of the board of directors of the One China Association of North America, USA. In addition, Russ works with several senior executives of foreign companies entering China as a professional advisor-mentor for effective international leadership and business development. He is the Chairman and Senior Associate of Performance Institute, based in Holland, Michigan, U.S.A. Russ is a well known speaker at business and industry conferences Asia, Europe, and North America. He has served as a guest lecturer for numerous universities in the Asia, Africa, Europe and North America.
Since 1979, Russ has been a member of Rotary International in four different countries and territories, serving on the boards of directors in four clubs and president of the Rotary Club of Beijing from 2000-2001. He currently serves on the Rotary International China Advisory Team and as Assistant Special Representative in China for Rotary District 0052.
Russ attended Central Nebraska College, Hastings, Nebraska, USA. He obtained his CLU certification from the American College, Bryn Mawr, Pennsylvania, USA, and is a Fellow of the LIMRA Leadership Institute, Babson College, Wellesley, Massachusetts, USA.
Shawn M. Miller
Shawn M. Miller has nearly 20 years of business experience working both in the USA and internationally with extensive experience in sales, marketing and management. Presently, Shawn is CEO of Performance Institute headquartered in Holland, Michigan, USA, specializing in leadership & management development, and sales & marketing training. He is also an owner of Flex Fitness Center in Holland, Michigan, USA.
Shawn spent a number of years as a Territory Sales Manager and Customer Service and Training Manager for Mitsubishi Caterpillar Forklifts of America. He served as a mentor and trainer of the division’s most successful sales people and upgraded and revitalized the Inside Sales and Customer Service departments of the organization. In addition, Shawn served as a corporate trainer as well as addressing groups on products, operations, strategic planning, and sales training. Additional responsibilities included leading customer advisory boards, customer service training and leadership retreats.
For more than a decade, Shawn worked in sales, marketing and management in the sports equipment and recreation fields. He introduced several European and Asian sporting goods manufacturers’ products to North American markets, setting up and then selling rights and distribution operations.
In addition to extensive professional presentation training from several well known programs including Leadership Management International of Waco, Texas, USA, the Center for Executive Performance in Maryland, USA, and Leadership Development Systems in Michigan, USA. Shawn holds a Bachelor of Science degree in International Business with Spanish Language and Culture concentration from Aquinas College, in Grand Rapids, Michigan, USA. He is a holistic health practitioner certified by the C.H.E.K. Institute, trained as both a C.H.E.K. Holistic Lifestyle Coach and C.H.E.K. Exercise Coach.
Shawn is a Director of the Holland Area Chamber of Commerce and serves as Co-Chair of the Small Business Committee of the Holland, Michigan, Chamber as well as the Southwest Action Team of the Ottawa County, Michigan, Wellness Coalition. This collaborative organization of hospitals, schools, government agencies and businesses focuses on encouraging the adoption of healthy life styles.

Sunny Hong Zhang
Managing Partner (China)
Sunny Hong Zhang has 12 years of business experience working both in China and internationally focusing in banking, finance, marketing, management and sales. Presently, Sunny is the Managing Director of Performance Institute (China) headquartered in Beijing, China, specializing in leadership and management development, sales and marketing training. She is also Managing Director of UK Dragon Consultancy, Ltd., headquartered in London, UK, and Executive Assistant to the Chief Executive Advisor of Jpigroup, Inc., Beijing, China.
Sunny spent a number years in various team leadership and management positions with HSBC Bank in China and the UK. She has served as a Personal Finance Department Sales Manager responsible for the development of new sales markets and channels, customer relations, staff recruiting, training and risk management. She has also served as a Personal Finance Department Personal Relationship Manager responsible for customer relations and organizing sales activities, as well as a HSBC Bank Sub-Branch Manager in the UK, where Sunny was responsible for the branch’s retail and operational performance. Prior to working in banking, Sunny served as a Lecturer Assistant at Liaoning Industry University, and a Lecturer Assistant and part-time TV Presenter – Journalist at Bohai Normal University in China. She has also worked as a teacher, translator and chairman of the Student Union. In addition to extensive professional training in accounting, law, marketing and sales, Sunny has obtained her Associate Financial Planner (AFP) and Certified Financial Planner (CFP) certifications, and Effective Personal Productivity (EPP) from Leadership Management International (LMI). Sunny holds a BA in English Education with a minor in Banking, Finance and Psychology from Anshan Normal University (Liaoning Normal University), Shenyang, China and attended Southampton University, Southampton, UK for her MBA study. She is fluent in Mandarin, Cantonese and English with good language skills in Japanese and Korean.
Sunny is active in the American, British and European Chambers of Commerce. She has also been active in community service and charity work both in China and the UK, raising money for children in need and helping foreigners new to China and the UK make the cultural adjustments needed when moving to a new country.
