    “The Power of Leadership”

    Celebrate the Art of Moneymaking…

For Business Leaders building Massive Momentum in business…

The artist Andy Warhol said, “Being good in business in the most fascinating kind of art.  Making money is art and work is art and good business is the best art.”

I am encouraged by the recent gains of television shows such as The Apprentice and Shark Tank which celebrate entrepreneurial endeavors and reward success in money making, perhaps this preludes a shift in thinking among the populace.

But, most of us business leaders get little in the way of recognition for the work we do and the global benefits of the business with create.  In reality you are more likely to be regarded harshly as the provider of jobs and the payer of taxes than to be recognized for it, thus our constant reinforcement to our private clients of the need for immunity to criticism.

I wish to honor you today for your artistry in moneymaking!  You’ll likely go the remainder of the week with no standing ovation and will not likely ever receive a gold statuette for your accomplishment, but that does not mean you are undeserving of recognition as a master of art.  Warhol creates a painting, you create a pile of money, both have created art from thin air!  Congratulations to you!

    Be proud of your Art,

    Shawn

  • Business Limiting Conformity…

    “The Power of Leadership”

Excuses Justify Comfort Zones and Limit Business Growth…

For a Business Leaders looking to build Momentum in business…

We’ve talked a great deal over the years about the strength of comfort zones, it’s solidly a natural human instinct to remain safe and secure in one’s comfort zone. Many of the excuses that we make serve our justification of comfort zones.  I was just reading about one of the strongest of comfort zones which is ‘hard-wired’ in humans; it is that we are pre-conditioned for conformity. Most people take great comfort in being among the majority and in being accepted by those around them.  Even if you’re wrong, at least you’re wrong with a bunch of other people!

This behavior damages leadership in several ways and is typically demonstrated by leaders acting on the advisement of the majority of their followers.  We love to point this out about our political leaders, but many of us do it as well in our organizations.

Related to our ongoing conversation regarding business momentum however this is also a relevant example as many of us are strictly limiting our organizational potential by conforming to norms just to be ‘safe.’ I expect there are many choices made daily which shocking limit your real potential based upon the following limits.

Please thoughtfully consider these questions and report back in the Comment box below this Post:

    1. 1. What are you doing by force of habit, because you’ve always done it this way?
    2. 2. What are you doing because it conforms to industry norms or professional standards?
    3. 3. What are you doing because ‘everyone else’ is doing it?
    4. 4. What are you doing because of fear of criticism, disapproval, or ridicule?

Are your ‘Rules’ helping or hurting?
