“The Power of Leadership”
Don’t confine yourself to your own specialty. You can gain much by not confining yourself only to your own field of specialty:
* You’ll have better opportunity for higher promotion. Confining yourself to your own specialty might possibly bring you faster promotion in the beginning, but your advancement will eventually become limited.
* The higher you go, the better the financial return. What this really boils down to is that the greater your responsibility and accountability, the greater will be your material benefits and your financial return.
* Your career will be much more interesting. Frankly, I cannot visualize doing one job for 20 or 30 years. You do not need to change companies in order to seek out new challenges.
Techniques you can use to grow and gain more benefits for yourself:
* Set your goal high. Then set steps to achieve to reach your high goal. Focusing only on your high goal can become discouraging, but achieving one-step-at-a-time towards your goal leads to motivation.
* Crystallize your thinking. To do this, you must be specific about what you want. Focus down sharply on your desires, your goals, your ambitions.
* Develop a plan for achieving your goal. You’ll be amazed at how quickly this will change your fanciful daydreams into definite concrete desires. Write down your plan. Say in black and white what it is that you want to attain.
* Develop a sincere desire for the things that you want. What is it you expect to receive when you reach your goal?
* Develop supreme confidence in yourself and your own abilities. You should concentrate on your strengths instead of your weaknesses.
* Follow through on your plan with determination and perseverance. The obstacle doesn’t exist that cannot be overcome if you have enough desire, determination, and perseverance to stick to your plan no matter what happens.
“When you reach for the stars you may not quite get one, but you won’t come up with a handful of mud either.” – Leo Burnett.
