    “If Horses Could Vote . . .”

One of the most difficult situations to manage, for a leader, is the ability to guide your employees through periods of significant change.  No matter what you try, it seems, at least some people will strongly resist the goals you’re trying to accomplish.

When contemplating instances of significant change, I’m thankful that horses were never given the opportunity to vote.  Because if they did; the automobile would never have been created.

Change is inevitable.  People can choose to embrace, ignore it, or resist it. And if employees are ever given the opportunity to “vote” for change, they likely will resist it. This is only human nature, but doesn’t make much horse-sense, either.

As a leader of people, you are ultimately responsible for achieving results.  If this requires significant change, so be it.  Resistance by others is natural.  Embrace their reservations, strive to overcome them, yet remember that ultimately the only “vote” that matters is your own.
