“The Power of Leadership”
Who uses the positive power of negative preparation?
Great examples are successful sports coaches, most of whom wisely use this tool: Most good coaches go into each game with more than one game plan. They have a plan for if their team is ahead early. A different plan for if the team falls behind. They have plans ready for different combinations of players in case of a key injury during the game. That is not negative thinking; that is the positive power of negative preparation!
Steps for Using the Positive Power of Negative Preparation
- Forget preconceived labels of “positive” and “negative.”
- Make a list of every concern, obstacle, negative response, objection… everything that could possibly go wrong.
- Develop positive responses to and reactions for all the negatives you’ve thought of.
- Have your ideas and information documented and well organized so you can lay hands on it the minute something goes wrong.
- Move ahead with great confidence due to your thorough preparation!
“Today will never happen again. Do not waste it with a false start or no start at all. You were not born to fail.” – Og Mandino
