“The Power of Leadership”
I enjoyed thinking positively so much yesterday, I ‘rolled back the clock’ even further in time to 1902 and downloaded a ‘fresh copy’ of As A Man Thinketh by James Allen. As a Man Thinketh was influential for Dr. Peale, mentioned yesterday, as well as Earl Nightingale and other foundational authors on success and motivation. The book exists in public domain today, so you should be able to download a copy for yourself at no cost and share it with all of your friends!
James Allen focused on the biblical phrase “as a man thinketh in his heart, so is he” and focused millions of people’s attention on the power of their thoughts and raising their level of thinking about themselves and their opportunities in life. Allen says, “A person’s character is the complete sum of all his thoughts.” He suggests that through thoughts, you shape the entire course of your life. “All achievements, whether in business, intellectual or spiritual world, are the result of definitely directed thought. That is why, to be successful, healthy, and happy, it is imperative to master one’s own thoughts.”
Allen says that what we think about is drawn to us, because “a man is literally what he thinks.” “Men do not attract to them that which they want, but that which they are.”
Self control and self awareness are key behaviors advised by Allen and he prescribes devoting time to self-reflection, discovery, and gaining clarity on your dreams. Allen urges us to guard our minds and protect our thoughts from any person, book, or media that does not reflect what we want to become.
“He who self-reflects the best, wins.” – Glenn Dietzel
