“The Power of Leadership”
Build your Business over your Skills
Another Business Lesson from Gene Simmons of KISS
Awhile back I reviewed a Gene Simmons business book and many were surprised by the depth of Gene’s business insight. This past weekend, I caught a televised interview with Gene and his response to a question was again profound for business, missed by most, and aligned perfectly with our Speed to Market Principles.
Gene was asked why KISS is still popular today after more than 30 years when most bands and singers just come and go (like most small businesses). Gene said that is because most bands are focused on their craft, and he was focused on building their brand.
This is also true for your business! Yes, you must be competent, but additional refinement of your craft is not likely to fuel significant business growth, nor significant business longevity. Sales and Marketing are your twin tickets to freedom in business, my friends! That is a Speed to Market principle to have tattooed on your eyelids.
Have a great day selling!
