Pepsi Co. has a new CEO, for the first time in its history a leader not from its Sales Department and not having run a successful division of the company before ascending to CEO. She has no experience in Sales at all. So far, Sales have fallen 5%, Market share has declined 3%, and millions have been invested in experimental new product development programs clearly not derived on market feedback but of a new vision for the future.
Leadership of any business simply MUST be laser focused on Sales and Marketing and Cash-flow. We’re ALL in the business of Sales and Marketing. Cue the famous Mr. Gamble of Proctor & Gamble quote, “Any fool can make soap.” But that’s unwelcome truth for many who want their businesses to be about many things other than Sales and Marketing.
