• Thought Habits of a Winner

    “The Power of Leadership”

There are millions of members of the “KISS Army” all over the world, so I’m certain there are Thought of the Day readers who are fans of the legendary Gene Simmons.  This past weekend, I read Gene’s latest book Sex, Money, and Kiss, which contains some solid advice on business and personal leadership.  Gene writes:

Failure means nothing.  Keep swinging that bat.  Sooner or later you’ll hit the ball!  We’ve often heard the phrase “Winners are born, not made.”  It’s not true.  That phrase was written by a loser.  It’s self defeating.  It means I may as well not even try if I wasn’t born a winner, because I’m bound to fail.  It’s a self-fulfilling prophecy.  Akin to a baseball player afraid to swing the bat because, he might miss the ball and get a strike.  The truth is you can keep swinging and strike out every time, and keep coming up to bat again.  Sooner or later you will hit the ball!  The word “no” means nothing.

A winner never takes no for an answer.  On the days where there is nothing to do, a winner finds something to do.  On days when there is no work, a winner will create work.  On the day when the winner has won the game, is at the peak of his power and is the actual world record holder, the very next day he will (as he should) get up at the crack of dawn and try to break his own record.  Life, when you’re a winner, is about achieving.  More.  Not less.  A winner never rests on his laurels.  A winner only rests when you stick him six feet under.

A winner is admired by losers.  Losers make excuses as to why they are not winners.  A winner who hasn’t won will simply try harder next time.  But in his mind, he’s always a winner.  If he didn’t win that race, he’s only lost one battle.  The war is still to be fought.  Never wait for the fat lady to sing.

“It ain’t over till it’s over.” – Yogi Berra

    Have a great day!
