    “The Power of Leadership”

Trouble in the Ranks at Disney World…

If you have now or have ever experienced uncomfortable or stressful relationship with the people on your team, this lesson may be for you.   A leader lacking clear Vision and/or a group of followers unclear about the leader’s vision will create tension and cause stressful relationships.   I’m still sharing on my insights from my experience as the ‘Leader of the Pack’ at Disney World, as I was attempting to lead with no clear Vision or Plan for the direction of the group I was attempting to lead.

This situation was uncomfortable for me as the leader, I felt anxiety about my choice of direction and I felt a little stressed by that because people are depending on me and I was not sure what to do.  Being a Leader without clear Vision is Stressful for the Leader!  This Stress probably made me a bit irritable toward my ‘Team’.

Now, remember, the back of the train was trying to guide the leader.  A position which was both unusual and awkward for those Team Members; so of course this causes my Team to feel stress and anxiety as well.  Stress causes irritability.

So now I’ve got a whole little group of people who are feeling a little anxious and a bit stressed (remember we were at Disney World and were having a great time, these feelings just stuck out so clearly for me because they were not numbed by the usual busyness of a work environment).  So much of the group is feeling a bit stressed by the situation, yet everyone is trying to facilitate communication and coordination toward an end goal, so everybody started to get a bit ‘pissy’ all of a sudden!  Imagine that…

If you find yourself having uncomfortable relationships with your team; check these things:  Do you have clear Vision of the path ahead?  Have you clearly Communicated your Vision?  Have you checked for Clarity of Understanding and Trust in your Vision by everyone on the Team?

Sounds simple, huh?  It’s not, is it?  Please share your thoughts in the Comments section below to help expand on my concept and allow other readers to learn from our collective mastermind capacity…

Have a great day leading your team!
