    “The Power of Leadership”

You weren’t born to be a cog in a giant industrial machine.  You were trained to be a cog.

There is an alternative available to you. Becoming a linchpin, is a process, a path in which you develop the attributes that make you indispensible.  You can train yourself to matter.  The first step is the most difficult, the step where you acknowledge that this is a skill, and like all skills, you can and will get better at it.  Every day you focus on the gifts, art and connections that make a linchpin, you’ll be a little more indispensible.

In the past business won by breaking complicated processes into simple instructions which could be easily followed by compliant, low-paid, replaceable, cogs that ran the efficient machines of industry.  Today we are struggling because during times of change the last people you need on your team are bureaucrats, literalists, manual followers, and fearful or TGIF laborers.  Compliant masses of labor don’t help much when you don’t know what to do next.

What we want, what we need, what we must have are indispensable human beings.  We need original thinkers, provocateurs and people who care.  We need marketers who can lead, salespeople able to risk making new human connections, passionate change makers willing to be shunned if necessary to make their point.  Every organization needs a linchpin, the person who can bring it together and make a difference.  We need artists.

Artists are people with a genius for finding a new answer, a new connection or a new way of getting things done.  That would be YOU.

He who rejects change is the architect of decay. The only human institution which rejects progress is the cemetery .” – Harold Wilson

    Have an artistic day!
