    “The Power of Leadership”

In the United States, Thursday the 26th is “Thanksgiving Day.”  It’s the American version of a Fall Harvest Festival.   We’ll gather with friends and family, eat way too much, and are supposed to share stories about the many things we’re thankful for.  Given that mood, I’ll share one more story from Paul Meyer’s life as he talks of abundance and learning that the world is his for the taking…

A World of Abundance – The world is mine!

As a youngster, I rode my bike seven miles into town (San Jose, CA) to buy some powdered milk, day-old bread, and a few other items my mother needed.  When we had the money, we would buy fresh milk and fresh bread from the grocery store near our home.

On one particular trip, my mother told me that if I had enough money left over that I could buy a watermelon.  There was just enough left over!

I loaded my purchases in to my bike basket that day and headed home.  I remember that bike ride like it was yesterday: the sun was shining, the wind was just right, the blue sky sparkled above me, spring flowers were everywhere, and the birds were singing.  The world was my cornucopia!

I felt happy from the top of my head to the tips of my toes.  I reveled in my abundance.  I had inherited the riches of the entire creation!

Did I really own it all?  Of course not, but my attitude of positive expectancy was taking root in my young heart.

Years earlier, I had asked my mother, “Who owns all the birds, the flowers, and the trees?”  “You own them if you are wise enough to enjoy them,” she answered.  I said, “How about the stars in the sky?”  She said, “You own the stars too, if you choose to.”  So I said to myself, “I’ll just own them.  Then I’ll have something to share with others that will never be used up.”

The seed of belief had been planted in me that the riches of all creation belonged to me if I wanted them and claimed them.  And I wanted and claimed them!

Since my childhood I have nourished that seed of truth, and it has flourished.  I hold the power to claim a magnificent inheritance: it all depends on me – the way I choose to look at life, the way I think, and the way I act.

I have learned that the whole world is mine for the taking and that if I assume that I will get nothing then I will indeed get nothing.  Approaching life with such a negative attitude would cause me to fall into despair and oblivion.

Since you get from life exactly what you expect, why not choose to dream marvelous, magnificent dreams!

“Your inheritance depends on you… only you can turn your dreams into reality.” – Paul J. Meyer

    Have a great day!
