    “The Power of Leadership”

I’ve used examples of leadership in past messages from the famous Hall of Fame UCLA basketball coach, John Wooden. One of my favorite stories is what he use to tell his players before they went into a game. He would tell them that if they could look into a mirror at the end of the game and honestly say, “I gave my best effort”, that was all that he could expect of them.

We need more of Coach Wooden’s wisdom today. In today’s culture too much emphasis is placed on winning. All we see are winners and losers. How about the millions of people throughout the world that did not win or loose today, but they gave their best effort?

I also enjoy sharing motivational messages from Sam Maitz of Leadership Management International, Inc. Below is such a message from Sam Maitz. Although in this message, I will use words in bold print following words where I feel my suggestion might better fit.

    ***************************************************************************************************************

Always do your best (give your best effort) at everything.

Make it your life rule of living to always do your best (give your best effort).

It’s your constant effort to be first-class in everything you attempt that will help you conquer the heights of excellence.

    Let superiority become your trademark.

Do a little more each day than you think you possibly can.

There is always a best way of doing everything. Find it.

Do more than you’re supposed to do and you can have or be or do anything you want.

If you want to enjoy enduring success, travel a little in advance of the rest of the world.

Your greatness will come from being great in the little things.
