“The Power of Leadership”

A friend recently asked me if I could simply define this “Personal Leadership” stuff I’m always talking about.  I said, “Well, I really learned that term from Paul J. Meyer, who defines it this way;”

Personal Leadership is the self-confident ability to crystallize your thinking and establish an exact direction for your own life, to commit yourself to moving in that direction, and then to take determined action to acquire, accomplish, or become whatever you identify as the ultimate goal for your life.

Which got me a bit of a blank stare and a repeat of the question, “so, yeah, can you simply define what Personal Leadership is or what?”  Here is my simple version of Paul’s concept:  I know what I want.  I say what I will do.  And I do what I say.

Here’s part one explained… ‘I know what I want’ is cornerstone to any and all personal and organizational leadership teachings and processes.  You must have a destination in mind in order to know which way to go.  This ‘destination’ is generally referred to as a Goal or a Set of Goals.  They should be clearly visualized and written down with specifics.  If you have clear and written goals, you’ve already distinguished yourself from somewhere near 97% of the people in the world.
