    “The Power of Leadership”

We start the week with another guest writer, Mr. Shawn M. Miller, Managing Partner of Performance Institute USA. Shawn is an expert in maximizing physical performance.

When Performance Institute USA talks about performance we speak in holistic terms, an example of this is our six spoke “Wheel of Life” – Financial, Mental, Physical, Social, Spiritual, and Family.

Why would our business focused “Thought” talk about physical performance? Any flat spots on your “Wheel of Life” will make for a bumpy ride and poor physical health will not only reduce your effectiveness on the job, it can take away your ability to work altogether. On the other hand excellent physical fitness will produce better mental focus and creativity, more stamina, and a more attractive appearance, all of which give you a leg up in your career.

When we study physical performance, we find that all physical performance begins in your mouth! You really need to focus your attention on what you’re eating. In the U.S. we teach children a phrase which could not be more truthful or more valuable, “You are what you eat.”

Our bodies are replacing millions of cells each day; we are in fact an entirely new person every 7 years because of this ongoing activity. What we choose to eat and drink are the only building blocks our bodies have to make new cells. So if you’re charged with leading your organization to a new level of performance are you going to be best served by new brain cells made from donuts and coffee?

Here are some very basic guidelines to follow … If it wasn’t on the planet 10,000 years ago, don’t eat it! If you can’t pronounce what’s in it, don’t eat it! And as much as possible, eat only whole, unprocessed, unrefined, organic, meats and produce.

Stay ‘tuned’ all this week for more information to improve your physical health!

    Heath and happiness to you,

    Shawn M. Miller
